The teams from Coexpan and Emsur, part of Grupo Lantero, took part in a new edition of Interpack, the world’s leading trade fair for the packaging industry, in an especially memorable edition marked by innovation, industry collaboration, and international recognition.
As part of the event, both companies were honoured with two WorldStar Packaging Awards, one of the most prestigious global recognitions in the sector, for their joint ReKeepEat solution, reinforcing their leadership in the development of sustainable and innovative solutions.
The proposal, jointly developed by Coexpan (rigid packaging) and Emsur (flexible packaging) at their innovation centre Innotech, received the WorldStar Award for Innovation for taking mono-material design and functionality to a new level, as well as a special recognition in the “Save Food” category for its ability to protect food and help reduce waste thanks to its resealable closure system.
“This award validates a way of understanding packaging in which innovation, customer proximity and continuous improvement are key. Behind it lies talent, teamwork and the ambition to keep raising the industry standard with solutions that truly make a difference,” says Bárbara Ruiz Calavera, Communications and Marketing Director at Grupo Lantero
During the trade fair, Coexpan and Emsur presented their latest innovations aimed at optimising the overall packaging system, advancing sustainability and improving industrial efficiency, demonstrating how both companies make rigid and flexible packaging integrate and complement each other to deliver unique solutions.
Innovations that make a difference
Among the most outstanding developments presented at Interpack are:
- ReKeepEat (Coexpan & Emsur): a 100% PET monomaterial resealable solution that promotes recycling, enables the incorporation of recycled material and extends food shelf life, reducing waste and improving the consumer experience.
- rPS Food (Coexpan): an innovative solution that incorporates up to 100% post-consumer recycled food-contact polystyrene for FFS and thermoforming processes. This innovation drives a model of true “cup-to-cup” circularity, in which the mechanical recycling of polystyrene within our closed loop gives new life to a yoghurt cup, significantly reducing the use of virgin raw materials.
- PP Easy Form (Coexpan), a solution that makes it easier to replace polystyrene with polypropylene in FFS processes, without compromising industrial performance or packaging quality.
- PP Banderole (Emsur): a polypropylene-based structure designed for decorative applications that optimises packaging while maintaining material consistency, facilitating recyclability and compliance with new regulatory frameworks.
These two innovations allow us to offer our customers mono-material banderole, lid and cup solutions in PP for FFS.
All these solutions respond to a growing market demand to combine sustainability, efficiency and functionality without compromising performance or production processes.
“At Coexpan, we view innovation as the ability to transform complex packaging challenges into practical, scalable solutions that create value across the industry. Our commitment is focused on developing advanced materials and high-performance packaging structures that support the transition toward a more circular economy, while maintaining production efficiency, operational reliability, and the highest standards of packaging performance. Through continuous research, technological development, and close collaboration with our partners, we strive to deliver sustainable solutions that meet the evolving demands of the market and contribute to a more responsible and resilient packaging industry.” says Iain Sturges, Commercial Director at Coexpan.
Real sustainability: from strategy to action
One of the central themes of their participation was the concept of “Real Sustainability”, an approach based on tangible, measurable progress aligned with the regulatory context.
This approach takes shape through:
- Progress in the recyclability of solutions
- Advancing circularity using recycled content
- Reducing environmental impact through decarbonization
In addition, the solutions presented are designed to facilitate their integration into current collection and recycling systems, helping to build a more efficient and scalable industrial ecosystem.
“At Emsur, we work to anticipate new consumption trends and market demands, developing solutions that combine sustainability, efficiency and appeal for the end consumer, without losing sight of our customers’ industrial viability,” adds Zarina Djikaeva, Commercial Director at Emsur.
The success achieved at this edition of Interpack and the two awards received reinforce Coexpan and Emsur’s commitment to developing solutions that actively help redefine global packaging standards.
