The S&OP team explain the keys to the Sales and Operations Planning management process. Don’t miss it!

HEALTH AND SAFETY

We closed 2023 with a marked improvement in the Group’s data compared to 2022, but still with significant opportunities for improvement. Our goal is for everyone to go home safe and healthy every day. Let’s continue to take care of ourselves and each other!

EMSUR Poland has just completed 3 years without accidents. An important milestone has been reached in which the employees’ commitment to safety and the creation of a safe working environment must be highlighted. The key has been to closely monitor the main indicators, analyse errors and take preventive actions. An example to follow!

Values workshops

We have concluded 18 sessions of Values Workshops in different plants of Coexpan, Emsur and Leca. The aim of these sessions is to bring the company’s values closer to our people; they are an opportunity to actively participate in the creation of the group’s new culture, transforming the values into behaviours that they can apply in their day-to-day work.

COMMERCIAL

COEXPAN is producing PLA, bio-based plastic, for Nutripack Romania and Nutripack Germany. Both thermoforming companies started testing PLA in 2023 and are placing orders regularly. One more fact that confirms the great acceptance of this material among our customers and potential customers.

PLA (polylactic acid) is a bio-based, industrially compostable plastic material that can be used as a viable alternative to conventional plastic packaging. Unlike other polymer resins (PP, PET, PS…etc), PLA is not obtained from fossil resources, which is an important and positive point of difference.

PLA is made from renewable resources by using sugar cane or corn starch as the basis for the chemical fermentation process to produce this type of polymer. PLA can be extruded and thermoformed in the same way as other polymers, allowing us to offer it as a more sustainable alternative to our customers.

The market response has been very positive and the track record of new customers, who order on a regular basis, demonstrates the success of PLA.

EMSUR SAYMOPACK has validated with the presence of Delafruit the first industrial order printing. The approval process has been long and one of the critical points has been the change of printing technology from rotogravure to flexography, which has been validated by the customer who has been very satisfied with the result. We are still working on the approval of a mono-material structure to improve the recyclability of the product.

ESTELLA PRINT , in Rodesa, has produced for Hugo Publishing the French version of Rebecca Yarros’ bestseller, Fourth Wing. Fourth Wing is an epic fantasy story, the first title in the “Empyrean” series and has been on The New York Times Best Sellers list for 42 weeks. For the French version, we have produced two carefully designed versions: a paperback version and a hardback version with dust jacket and tinted edges.

LECA GRAPHICS attended the PCD and Pharmapack trade shows in Paris last January.  PCD is the leading trade fair in the packaging industry for perfumery and cosmetics and this year it had more than 14.077 visitors. Pharmapack is Europe’s leading packaging event for the pharmaceutical sector and this year’s edition was attended by more than 5,000 people.

We are sure that there will be great business opportunities!

BUSINESS MILESTONES

The “12 months Quality Commitment” campaign continues on our sites. In March, the theme was “Traceability at every step” and in April we will start with “Protective clothing“, a way of reminding everyone of the importance of commitment to quality: Quality is all of us!

Eco-design has transformed packaging with the aim of reducing the environmental impact of packaging throughout its life cycle, from design to disposal. Some of the most significant changes are the reduction of raw materials, changing the shape of packaging, and the use of raw materials from natural sources, which modifies colour and texture. Eco-design seeks a balance between the functionality, aesthetics and environmental impact of packaging.

Pantone’s founder, Lawrence Herbert, worked in a printing company in the 1960s and his day-to-day work consisted of trying to replicate the colours that his clients were looking for. Brands wanted to keep their colours, but it was very difficult because they were not standardized. So, Herbert developed a colour identification system, creating a “universal languageof colours through numbers. Today, thousands of colours are registered thanks to this system.
