HEALTH AND SAFETY
Many of our plants go through months when we have to deal with extreme temperatures. Here is a clear guide to coping with heat stress.
Before the workday:
- Pay attention to the planning and acclimatisation measures established by the company.
- Be aware of symptoms related to heat overload (dizziness, nausea, confusion, dehydration).
- Seek medical advice if you’ve previously experienced heat-related issues or have conditions that may increase the risk.
- Get enough sleep.
During the workday:
- Follow the established schedule, prioritising high-intensity tasks during the early hours.
- Respect rest times and take breaks in designated areas.
- Wear the fresh and breathable clothing provided.
- Use mechanical aids or assistance from others to reduce physical effort.
- Frequently drink appropriate beverages (water, cold tea, lemonade) at a temperature of 10–15ºC, avoiding alcoholic, sugary, and caffeinated drinks.
- Eat light and fresh foods (salads, vegetables, fruits), avoiding high-calorie or salty foods.
- Report any failure in the established measures.
- Stop working and rest if you experience cramps, headache, dizziness, nausea, or instability.
- Prioritise moving to a cool place and wetting the skin if someone feels unwell. Call emergency services in case of high body temperature and lack of sweating.
After the workday:
- Shower and cool down after finishing work.
- Avoid continuing with intense physical activity.
- Avoid staying in environments with high thermal load.
